Being the BRIDGE: A Reflection on Camping

More than 300 camp and retreat leaders met at Epworth by the Sea on St. Simon’s Island, GA, the week of January 23-27. Fun facts: Famed evangelists John and Charles Wesley, who formed the party that came to be named Methodist, engaged in ministry on St. Simon’s Island in 1736-37, and Epworth by the Sea is now a United Methodist Conference Center.

Reflecting on 50 Years of Christian Camping Experiences

While I was interacting with some elementary campers this summer at Gretna Glen Camp & Retreat Center in Lebanon, PA, and they were trying to guess how old I am (which never goes well), I told them my first camping experience was in 1972. They did the math (which made me happy) and reminded me that this was my 50th year of continuous Christian camping experiences in Eastern and Western Pennsylvania, not counting 2020!
